What is the current level of fertility?
In its most recent estimate (summer 1998) the UN Population Division has estimated that the average TFR (average number of children per woman) is 1.8.
From recent fertility surveys a Total Fertility Rate of 1.82 children per woman was reported as a national average. For urban areas the TFR was estimated at 1.48 children per woman; for rural areas the TFR was estimated at 1.98.
